“I am so happy that my mom went to Whispering Pines for a trial stay in October. After two weeks she said she was staying. I know mom is safe there but more important to me is she is happy again. Mom loves it. She has made new friends and the staff are amazing. They are very friendly, helpful, supportive and offer great activities. They are also almost finishing renovations. I highly recommend you check it out. Looks amazing. Thank you to everyone .”
“My mother is a resident at Whispering Pines and she really enjoys living there. I just wanted to thank you very much for putting on a Pride Party. Mom said the music and brightness of the event were great, and lots of folks were up dancing, having a wonderful time. I think this is very progressive of you and I am so pleased.”
“It’s been a year since we moved our mom into whispering pines and we have been very pleased with the family feel of the home. So much so that about 2 months later we moved my in-laws into the residence as well. It’s nice to walk in the front door and be greeted by first name by so many of the residents and staff. We enjoy going to the home to help with and participate in events with our family. The staff always keeps you informed of upcoming events. I have recommended whispering pines retirement home to many friends with parents looking for a change. It’s a comfort to know your parents are in a safe and healthy environment. Wishing anyone reading this all the best in your move to retirement living.”
“My uncle suffered a medical condition that required convalescence. Chartwell Whispering Pines managed to find him a spot in less than 24hrs! Staff were so kind and welcoming, my entire family is so grateful. His room was lovely, with a beautiful walk-out to the center courtyard for fresh air and exercise. Meals were excellent and lots of activities to keep him active and entertained. Residents welcomed him like a long lost friend. Truly a wonderful experience.”

“My father has been a resident of Owen Hill since May 2019 and I have nothing but praise and respect for this facility. It may be an older and small facility, but my father and our family have been treated with nothing but dignity and respect from the day he entered there. The staff are incredibly kind and caring. Even when there was a Covid-19 outbreak back in the early spring, they kept me constantly updated and made themselves fully accessible for any concerns or questions I might have had. I hear so much negative about so many nursing homes that I had to post that Owen Hill is a place where you can be reassured that your loved one will be very well cared for. Thank you staff at Owen Hill!”
“I have the utmost respect for this nursing home they keep me informed about everything that is happening with my loved one the nurses and Psws treat me with great respect I love the closeness of this home everyone is like Family and thank you Lucianna you have been my rock when I needed to talk to someone”

FAQs
A long-term care facility or nursing home provides 24-hour care to residents who require any sort of assistance with their daily activities. Nursing home staff can watch over patients with health conditions that need constant monitoring and can respond to health emergencies efficiently. The facility also provides residents with balanced meals, as well as daily activities and various services and amenities.
Although we all strive for independent aging, certain conditions can make remaining in our homes impossible. If your loved one has a chronic illness or has recently undergone hospitalization, they might benefit from the services of a nursing home. If they require assistance that you find difficult to handle at home, a nursing home can enhance the senior’s quality of life.
Seniors can choose from various living arrangements once they reach retirement age, including retirement homes and nursing homes. The two types of facilities are fundamentally different. As mentioned, nursing homes are generally for seniors who require daily assistance. Retirement homes are for seniors who want to simplify their living situation but are still independent.
Nursing homes place great emphasis on engaging residents socially. They also provide exercise programs and special activities aimed at cognitive improvement to help those with different conditions. In addition, many nursing homes have a slew of amenities residents can leverage, including on-site medical care, rehabilitation centers, hairdresser’s salons, massage therapy, dental services, laundry, cable, transportation, etc. Some facilities also organize local entertainment events and excursions regularly.
Finding a Trusted Nursing Home in Barrie
When our loved ones require the special care we are no longer able to provide for them ourselves, finding a supportive nursing home is recommended. The best nursing homes in Barrie do much more than just provide accommodation, so thorough research is necessary to find the right one for your loved one.
What Expenses Can I Expect?
While nursing home care in Barrie is covered by the government, the fees associated with accommodations are still paid by the residents or their families. Nevertheless, these accommodation prices are highly regulated. The following paragraph covers the highest possible prices nursing home residents can expect until the end of September 2022.
Prices vary depending on the accommodation’s privacy and the length of the stay. The daily rate for a basic room can cost up to $62.18, totaling $1,891.31 per month. This figure increases to $74.96 per day ($2,280.04 per month) for a semi-private room. Finally, private accommodation for a long stay incurs an $88.82 daily accommodation fee at most, which equals $2,701.61 per month. Some nursing homes also offer the option of short stays for up to $40.24 per day. Certain extra amenities at the nursing facility may incur additional fees.
That said, individuals with low income may qualify for financial help that will cover co-payment fees associated with nursing home accommodation.
Accommodation type | Price per day | Price per month |
---|---|---|
Basic long-term | $62.18 | $1,891.31 |
Semi-private long-term | $74.96 | $2,280.04 |
Private long-term | $88.82 | $2,701.61 |
Short-term | $40.24 | N/A |
The Importance of Picking the Right Nursing Home

Not only do you need to consider the specialized care the facility offers, but you must also pick a nursing home where your parents or family members will feel at home. Research the best nursing homes in Barrie mentioned above to learn in detail about the amenities and activities offered by each.
